THE CREATURE

'IT LURKS BENEATH'

Child of Hate and Fear
The Creature would screech all day
If it had its way.

It's wild and bitter;
It sneers at your Compassion;
It pisses on Love.

Don't look at its face
Lest you want Obscenity
Burned into your mind.

Growing up, it fed
On Envy, and Guilt, and Shame;
Generous portions.

Its blood is Venom.
Its dialect is Disgust.
Its touch? Pure poison.

It mocks you with glee
With its brutal, blood-red eyes;
Its sneers violate.

When no-one's looking
It shits right in front of you.
The smell, it lingers.

Just don't let it speak.
It whispers: "Why not end it?"
So subtly toxic.

It's famously cruel:
It will set fire to your dreams
And burn down your house.

I'm its long-time slave:
It resides under the bed.
Its name? Self-Loathing.

    1. Haha, quite right! Perhaps we need to use a mental pitchfork? [My grandmother would use a trident.] Acknowledging the creature’s existence robs it of a lot of power, I feel.
      And thank you, Amanda; I’ve managed to squeeze some more mojo into my glass today. πŸ˜‰

      1. Haha… sadly too late to stop the song from running thru my head all night. πŸ˜‰
        Only five? It’ll do, I suppose. Sugar helps with the lucid dreaming, don’tcha know. πŸ˜‰

      2. Haha, well at big shop the girl at the check-out is sadly never impressed when I start to wax lyrical about the charms of the pack of sweet, sweet sugar that I’m buying. She’s heard it all before… 😦
        Haha good to hear: that chap could make a bit of money at the mentoring in the future. πŸ˜€

      3. Hmm… and now I’m suddenly feeling apprehensive! (Camera-shy, you see.)
        Perhaps I could wear my tuxedo under the kaftan? Just in case I’m invited to a soiree… πŸ˜‰

      1. No, more like gatitude. I am thankful that those feelings aren’t an everyday, all day occurance anymore, constantly eating away at me inside. They will pop up, kind of like a pimple…lol. Reading your post today, is a reminder, not so much of bad things but of the good things now. πŸ™‚

      2. Ah, well that’s wonderful to hear … that sense of it being relative is very good. πŸ™‚
        To keep these past experiences in mind is very important, I think, for our sense of health, and not to take things for granted.

      3. Exactly, and those experiences got me to here. They are a part of me. You are absolutely correct, some people tell me they just want to forget. I never want to forget that deep dark pit of despair, least I fall back into it πŸ™‚ and it makes the “now” that much sweeter.

      1. It’s pretty much the only reason I write. To get the chaos out of my brain and somewhere solid… it’s almost like a physical brain dump πŸ™‚ x

      2. Me too. I remember reading about you when ‘Professor Lovely’ first highlighted your blog to me… and I’m glad you’re finding it therapeutic! We’ll get there πŸ™‚
